Trains!

MagLev - MagLev stands for Magnetic Levitation. The technology works through levitation with the help of magnets and superconductors.

Pros: No friction! Fastest of all the trains. Your best alternative to flying. Extreme efficiency. Much lower maintenance costs.
Cons: Relatively high build cost. Not compatible with conventional rail technology.
Strategic Allocation: Needs smooth curves (although the technology is progressing).

Where in the World?: Up Top: MagLev leaving Pudong International Airport
Shanghai - Runs from Pudong International to Shanghai Metro. Built by Transrapid (from Germany) and was inaugurated in 2002.
Germany - One of the oldest running with paying customers, a test track in Emsland, Germany, was completed in 1984.
Japan - In a test facility in Yamanashi prefecture in Japan, the JR-Maglev MLX01 holds the record for fastes MagLev according to Guinness World Records. How to celebrate? How does giving residents from the prefecture (aside from government officials) free rides on the fastest train in the world sound?

Setting the Record Straight: On December 2nd, 2003 the train reached 581 km/h.
Aichi: In Aichi, Japan, you'll find the world's first "urban MagLev" and was opened in March 2005.
